Garage Bands
– Taking a peek into the world of Memphis’s garage
bands from the heyday of rock ‘n roll, Bearden
explores the funky, down-home world of rock ‘n
rollers through interviews with some of the most
well-known names of Memphis rockers and others.
We’re not talking necessarily the most famous on
the national scene, but some of the names that
really shaped Memphis music. |

Overton Park
– It’s one of the nation’s largest urban park
areas, and in this video Bearden takes a look at a
true urban treasure. Now over 100 years old,
Overton Park is a world of huge, towering trees
which comprise a magnificent climax forest, right
in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee. The park is
complete with a zoo, wonderful flora and fauna and
even a ghost or two. It’s a beautiful montage of
video images, a creative collage of interviews
with people who really know the park, and a
tribute to the environmental heritage of the city |

Elmwood Cemetery
– Historic Elmwood Cemetery provides an eternal
resting place to some of the community’s most
notable names. It’s living history, with all the
beauty of magnificently sculpted tombstones
inscribed with mayors, business leaders and even
Civil War spies. In this video, Willy Bearden
offers interviews with the civic caretakers of
this gem and provides some wonderful footage of a
Memphis treasure. |

A Horn Island Journal
– Each year, students and friends of the Memphis
College of Art take a pilgrimage to Horn Island, a
small island off the coast of Mississippi in the
Gulf of Mexico. They spend a week on this
primitive island to create their own memories
through photography, drawings, paintings and other
media. The work is presented later in the year at
an exhibit at MCA. This video is a documentation
of the island and its annual visit by some Memphis
artists and friends. |
